5th Day of the Nine Emperor God Festival in George Town, Penang

This morning I went over to the Kew Ong Yeah Temple in Burmah Road opposite the TM Head Office. Today is the 5th day of the festival. There were big crowds of worshippers and the smoke and smell of incense filled the air. I went into the temple to take a pic of this wooden boat which will be used to give the Nine Emperor God a grand send off. Fire walking ceremonies are usually associated with this festival but I have not seen one yet. I will head for the Kew Ong Yeah Temple in Weld Quay and maybe I can see devotees walking on fire there.

Taiping is located in the state of Perak, Malaysia. It is one of the oldest cities of the country and yet unspoilt. It has so far managed to escape over development. Nine Emperor God Festival in George Town, Penang.

Today  is the 1st day of the Nine Emperor God Festival in George Town, Penang. This morning I saw many worshippers at the Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) Temple in Jalan Mesjid Kapitan Keling (formerly known as Pitt Street). Also there was a make shift shelter behind the Star Publications building so that devotees can make offerings. There are several such make shift shelters all over Penang built temporarily on public roads. The Nine Emperor God Festival is a major festival and so there will be plenty of temple activities in George Town for the next 9 days. During this period all devotees go on a strict vegetarian diet and there are many stalls all over the island selling vegetarian meals. Some people refer the Nine Emperor God as the “rain god” because during the 9 day festival, there will be long periods of rain. offerings for the Nine Emperor God in front of Kuan Yin Temple the shed next to the Star Publications building

My new blog on two beautiful cities in Malaysia, Taiping & George Town, Penang.

For many years (since 1997 till now) I have maintained pictorial websites which illustrate the history and beauty of two heritage cities in Malaysia, namely George Town in Penang and Taiping in Perak. These two beautiful cities in northern Peninsular Malaysia are merely 100 km apart and both have been acclaimed by the world press as beautiful places to live in. I have lived in Taiping and now live in Penang. The RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force), the RAF (Royal Air Force) and British Army had many men stationed both in Taiping and Penang and many of them visited my websites to recall old and beautiful memories.
